AII: American Internship and Immersion Program
The American Internship and Immersion Program (AII) is specially designed for students of the Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) School of Communication and Information. The program is an intense 24-week cultural immersion and internship program for students who have strong interest in gaining professional experience in an American workplace and, in becoming more acquainted with American culture and society.
The AII program is set in a college town in the heart of America and will provide participants with unique and valuable experiences by allowing them to hone their skills learnt in school by working in an American company or organization and by challenging them to excel in a foreign environment. Participants will also learn and interact regularly with professionals in their respective fields. In addition to an up-close and personal experience of American life and culture, participants will also have an opportunity to meet students/scholars from different parts of Asia and around the world.
Program components:
Orientation (2 weeks)
• Introduction to Columbia and MU
• Introduction to American Life and business etiquette
• Introduction by representatives from respective internship sites
• Professional seminars by journalists

Internship
•Internship (20 weeks)
• 40 hours per week
• Possible internship sites include state and local government offices, media organizations/companies, private corporations and local non-profit organizations*
• Compensation will depend on the internship site and will be confirmed prior to program start date

* Every effort will be made to place the participant at an internship site that matches the participant's interests and strong regard will be given to the participant's choices to ensure a successful internship experience. However, the Asian Affairs Center cannot guarantee that every participant will be placed at their desired internship site.

Events/Field Trips
• Weekends/Evenings
• Field trips to Missouri's cultural and historical attractions
• Field trips to in-state and out-of-state companies and organizations
• Participation and attendance at local cultural events and also at events such as the POYi (Pictures of the Year International) judging |

Collegiate Ambassador
The Collegiate Ambassadors Program (CAP) is a unique program where current MU students will act as mentors, tutors, tour guides, and friends to visiting students participating in the American Immersion and Internship program. Each participant will be partnered up with a Collegiate Ambassador upon arrival. |

Repatriation/Final Presentations (2 weeks)
• Professional career/portfolio workshop
• Repatriation seminar - evaluation and reflections
• Final presentation
Application and Program details
Program Period: January 13 - June 29, 2007 (24 weeks)
Program Cost:Please contact the AAC for more details
Includes 24 weeks of accommodation, health insurance and program fees.
Does NOT include roundtrip airfare or other personal expenses.
Cancellation fees will apply beginning 30 days prior to program start date, please see full program details for more information.
Application Process:
1. Download and complete a copy of the application form (MSWord).
2. Please include a copy of your resume with your application.
3. Appplications and the above materials must be received by Friday, October 13.
4. Documents required for U.S. visa applications are issued to applicants via the School of Communication and Information on Friday, November 10. Applicants may begin applying for their U.S. visas*.
5. Participants are scheduled to arrive Saturday, January 13, 2007.
*The Asian Affairs Center cannot guarantee that the applicant's visa application will be approved as approval of visa applications is at the discretion of U.S. Embassy officials.
